Translate thinking into communication
I found and quoted this today in a blog post analyzing Claude Design claims:
The designers reporting the highest satisfaction with Claude Design in early 2026 are not necessarily the most experienced — they’re the ones who learned to translate design thinking into precise, intent-rich language fast.
The insight here is that the skill of putting AI to work is not exactly the same as the skill we use to build things, though it draws on much of it. That means experience is an important factor, but even more than that, it is about how we structure your own thinking and our ability to express it to AI.

So, 3 factors:
- Knowledge: which often translates to experience for most of us, but may matter more in terms of understanding the whys than the hows;
- Systems thinking: how we organize that knowledge for ourselves;
- Communication: how we express ourselves in general, including how well we understand the quirks of AI instructions.
If that’s true, how far are you from it? Which of these do you already have?
Given the way AI is evolving, it lowers the barrier to all three. But there is something irreplaceable about giving instructions with a high signal-to-noise ratio, and that requires all of them combined. No matter how advanced the AI is, it cannot read minds or produce great work from vague instructions.
